WHAT IS NOSAR?

When was NOSAR organized? The first meeting and organizing began on August 6, 1992 and on October 7, 1992 the organization was chartered by the State of Florida.

What are the primary functions of NOSAR?

bullet

To assist law enforcement and other agencies during searches resulting from various situations such as a drowning, hunting accident, lost child, or any other situation where our assistance is needed.

To provide communications and other assistance in and between local disaster shelters and Emergency Operations Command before, during and after hurricanes and other disaster situations.

To assist the local Office of Emergency Services with Disaster Damage Assessment

 

bullet

To monitor and report the local river(s) water stage levels during and after periods of heavy rainfall.

Can I join NOSAR?

Yes, anybody can join provided that they: a) have no previous criminal history, b) are at least 18 years old and c) be a licensed driver with a reliable means of transportation.

What previous experience is required?

None, we will train you.

Do I get paid?

No. This is a volunteer organization; no member receives pay for his or her time.

How do I join?

Ask one of the members for an application.

This all sounds interesting but I just don’t have the extra time to get involved. Can I help in another way? Yes, any donations will be deeply appreciated and your donation is TAX DEDUCTIBLE. (I.R.S. sec. 501c)
